Police allege 33-year-old pip layer Samuel Roderick King got into an argument with his partner of seven years at their Berkeley Vale home around lunchtime on March 22, prompting the woman to leave the house.
When she returned home later that afternoon, King was on the balcony with his mobile phone. He allegedly told the woman he was on the phone with police, “reporting her” for stealing money from him.
The woman then phoned police herself to report King’s earlier alleged abuse towards her, which defied an apprehended violence order that existed between them.
King allegedly grabbed her by the arm and kicked her in foot, causing the woman to scream in pain.
King then ran outside, allegedly getting a plastic petrol can and pouring petrol over the side of the house.
“I’m going to f—king burn the house down,” he allegedly yelled out before fleeing the scene.
King handed himself into Wollongong Police Station on Sunday afternoon, saying “I just want to get this sorted”.
He denied the police allegations in court on Monday, saying he would agree to abide by any bail conditions if released.
Magistrate Michael Stoddart granted King bail and adjourned the matter to April 11 for further mention.
