Fifteen months since 19-year-old Jye suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the back of his head, the Mercury can reveal the footage forms a key part of the ongoing police investigation.
A police source this week confirmed the existence of footage gathered from “various locations”, leading to advances in the investigation.
“As a result of this, there are a number of persons of interest who are now being investigated,” a NSW Police source said.
The police investigation has taken a number of turns since Jye’s December 26, 2015 death.
A man once considered the primary suspect is no longer the only one in detectives’ sights.
Meantime, charges against a 39-year-old Warilla man who was arrested in June, as an accessory, have since been dropped.
Detectives have now renewed their appeal for public assistance in the matter.
Police have previously indicated Jye was feuding with multiple parties in the lead-up to his death.
Officers from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command established a crime scene at Jye’s Kippax Street home after his body was found in the front yard on December 26, 2015.
A post-mortem examination determined he had suffered a gunshot wound.
Strike Force Briony was formed, involving local police and detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and the Southern Region.
Contact detectives from Lake Illawarra Police Station or Crime Stoppers (1800 333 000. ) to assist with the police investigation.
