Police from Lake Illawarra Target Action Group swooped on a Waratah Street, Windang property about 3.30pm Thursday.
They allegedly uncovered a sophisticated enhanced hydroponic system of 55 cannabis plants and a large amount of dried cannabis. They will allege the power meter had been bypassed as part of the operation.
Police arrested a 53-year-old man, Van Minh Le, at the home. Le was charged with related offences and refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Friday.
Le did not apply for bail during Friday’s court proceedings.
His matter will return to court, assisted by a Vietnamese interpreter, July 12.
Police also arrested a 49-year-old man. He was released, pending further inquiries.
Thursday’s swoop follows a similar raid on at Mount Saint Thomas property on Monday, which allegedly netted plants worth $500,000. Police believe the Mount Saint Thomas operation may be linked to a third grow house uncovered at Coniston last month.
