NSW Police Force Commissioner Mick Fuller has announced five new assistant commissioners as part of the re-engineering of the force.
He has given Superintendent Kyle Stewart the nod to head the Operational Communication and Information Command.
And Superintendent Joe Cassar has been appointed Assistant Commissioner, in charge of the Capability, Performance and Youth Command.
Supt Stewart joined the NSW Police Force in 1985 as a general duties officer in Maroubra before moving into investigations across regional NSW in Cowra, Gunnedah and Moree.
He was later the Crime Manager at Barwon and then Commander at Shoalhaven and Wollongong.
Prior to his promotion, Mr Stewart was relieving as the Acting Assistant Commissioner at the Major Events Incident Group.
Supt Cassar joined the Force in 1987 working first as a general duties officer in Goulburn and Wollongong before joining investigations in Southern Region.
He later worked as a criminal investigator in Homicide, Drugs Squad and Child Abuse Squad before being promoted to Superintendent in 2011.
Prior to his promotion to Assistant Commissioner, Mr Cassar was Wollongong LAC Commander.
Mr Fuller said the assistant commissioners would bring a dynamic mix of youth, investigative, operational and corporate experience across regional and metropolitan NSW and specialist commands.
Police Minister Troy Grant said the Commissioner’s ‘’tremendous leadership team’’ offered a snapshot of the depth and breadth of talent within the state force.
The three other appointees are Tony Crandell who will head Education and Training Command; Karen Webb in charge of the Police Transport and Public Safety Command and Mark Walton, the new commander of the Central Metropolitan Region.
