Van Overmeire came unstuck when Natalie Jarvis’s runner bucked the young hoop shortly after the mare left the barriers.
Van Overmeire landed awkwardly and was taken to Wollongong Hospital with a neck complaint.
Scans showed no fractures, but Van Overmeire was kept overnight at the hospital for observation.
As Calm and Serene rolled along riderless, Robert and Luke Price trained Lani Girl went on to win the race.
Josh Adams, who had a double on the afternoon, was on hand to give Lani Girl a perfect ride as she claimed the Gwenda Markwell Benchmark 65 Handicap (1600m).
Lani Girl coasted to a two length victory over Wade Slinkard’s Too Chic, with Markwell’s Orcym Sam in third.
