But there are still many people in the community who need more information about the important service.
Uniting is marking the arrival of NDIS in the Illawarra by hosting a family fun day at Kembla Grange Racecourse on Saturday, August 26.
The informative and interactive event aims to offer people information on how the NDIS can work for them.
Running from 11am to 3pm, the free event features food, children’s entertainment, music and an interactive expo of local businesses, services and organisations.
Donna Dives, the district manager of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Area Coordination (LAC) Transition Services for Uniting on behalf of the NDIS, said NDIS aims to give people control over the services they access.
‘’We’re so excited by the arrival of the NDIS, everyone in the community is looking forward to enjoying the independence it will bring,’’ she said.
‘’What better way to celebrate, it will have such a benefit for everyone living in our community living with a disability.’’
Illawarra NDIS participant Brent Kelly agreed and added he was looking forward to the free event at Kembla Grange Racecourse.
‘’The NDIS gives me choices, independence and freedom,’’ he said.
‘’I enjoyed doing my plan and having the control over where my funding went. It gives people the support and assistance to make our dreams come true.’’
