This Sunday, September 10 marks the start of National Foster Care Week. Foster care agency, MacKillop Family Services, would like to thank its foster carers for the work they do, and their tireless efforts supporting children and young people in care.
“Foster carers play a vital role in the lives of children and young people, who through no fault of their own may have endured traumatic or difficult experiences,” MacKillop Family Services Illawarra Shoalhaven manager Tracy Hill said. “By providing a stable home, foster carers can set a child or young person on a path for a brighter future.

“We are currently seeking more emergency and short-term carers for children and young people of all ages. We are also seeking a permanent carer for a bright, happy eight-year-old boy in the Wollongong area. Henry* is in Year 2 at school where he is settled with great friendships. He is a bright student with neat handwriting and is an excellent reader. His interests include going to the local park, socialising with other children, jumping on the trampoline and playing Pokemon cards. Henry needs a home which will provide him with the support and care he needs to build his confidence and thrive.”
If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a foster carer, MacKillop is holding a no-obligation information session on September 19 from 6.30pm at its Wollongong offices. Phone 4250 5500 for more details and to register your interest. See mackillop.org.au for more. *Name changed
