Healthy Cities Illawarra hosted ‘5 x 5’ events in Bellambi and Lake Illawarra throughout May.
The 5 x 5 was a free community walking event whereby a 5km course was walked every Wednesday for the five weeks in May.
The ‘5 x 5’ events will now return to the Illawarra.
Lake Illawarra will again host the walks; this time it will be each Tuesday throughout October.
The walks begin at Lake Illawarra PCYC from 3.15pm.
The first walk will take place on October 3, and will then continue to take place each week throughout the month.
Participants can register on the day, or pre-register via the Healthy Cities Illawarra Facebook page.
Healthy snacks and water stations will be available.
Maddison Stratten, health promotion officer at Healthy Cities Illawarra said their overall aim was to encourage healthy habits.
“The 5 x 5 was a hit – with on average 70 walkers coming along each week, with half of these walkers committed to an ongoing walking group through the Heart Foundation and the Get Healthy coaching service,” Ms Stratten said.
“It was all about healthy habits.
“This is not just regular walking, but healthy lifestyle choices including quitting smoking.
“It’s also about connecting people, and it’s a good vibe on the day each time.”
