The park’s staff continue to mop up and patrol the fire, which began early on September 14 and burnt 1691 hectares, but all campgrounds and most major attractions will be available for holiday visitors from 9am.
A Parks Australia spokeswoman said the overall damage caused by the blaze, including flora and fauna losses, was still being determined.
“Thanks to the hard work of Booderee staff, the Wreck Bay community and the NSW Rural Fire Service most of the park’s infrastructure has been saved,” the spokeswoman said.
“The fire did reach the historic lighthouse but, being made of stone, it remains much as it was.
“Some of the surrounding infrastructure including a toilet block and the viewing platform has been damaged – but we’re still assessing.”
For safety reasons, most walking tracks in the eastern part of the park remain closed. Steamer’s Beach is also off limits due to an access road being closed.
Visitors to the park have been told to obey all road and track signs and any directions from rangers.
The fire is listed at “advice” level and is under control.
