Sir Elton John arrives in Wollongong by helictoper

He came, he saw, he choppered.

While the physical preparations to build the stage he stood upon took nearly a week, the star of the show himself was in Wollongong for just a matter of hours.

At about 2.20 pm a helicopter flew in low over the ocean side of the stadium carrying Sir Elton John.

It landed on the training field on the southern end outside the stadium and the star of the show disembarked to the cheers of crowds who had gather on the hotel apartment balconies opposite.

A silver Audi was waiting to chauffeur Sir Elton the short distance to his rooms underneath the stadium.

Shortly after the show the helicopter would take Sir Elton back out of Wollongong, ensuring the pop icon would be in the city for just about seven hours in total.

Sir Elton started the Once in a Lifetime shows in Mackay on Friday night.

The tour will now head  to Tasmania with a show in Hobart on Wednesday night.
