Anita’s Theatre in Thirroul will screen a program of unique films of varying lengths and styles covering topics related to dogs and their human companions from independent film makers around the globe on Wednesday October 11.
Organiser Jemima Robinson (who’s also behind the Banff Mountain and Ocean Film Festivals) said she was inspired to create the event after “falling in love with” Dog Power, a film about dog powered sports, she saw at a Canadian festival.
“I knew about dog sledding but there’s a whole world out there … of all these people who are competing in these events where the dog and the person is a team,” she said.
After receiving 280 entries Robinson and her team narrowed it down to eight – including Dog Power – which she believes showcase the “amazing positive impact” on people’s lives.
Films include animation, a music video, a rescue shelter teaming up with a women’s prison to retrain dogs on death row plus other heartwarming stories.
