The key scalp will be captain Ned Taylor, who scored 179 runs in his side’s victory over Gerringong last week. Lake Illawarra captain Mark Ulcigrai hopes to remove the opener before he can get settled at the crease.

“Obviously Ned Taylor’s the key, he got 179 last week, if we can get through the top order and into the middle order quickly, hopefully we can get another win.” Ulcigrai said.

“Hopefully there’s a little bit in the wicket early, our field placings will be crucial.”

“We need to get him early, he’s been prone to giving chances early, so if we can grab him early that will put us in good stead.”

Ulcigrai is hopeful that his team can improve upon their performance in last week’s victory over The Rail.

The Lakers picked up a six wicket victory however the all-rounder was disappointed with his team’s inconsistency with the ball.

“Our bowling plans and bowling areas need to improve. It’s easier to set fields and contain batsmen when you’re bowling consistently to one side of the wicket.”

The Lake Illawarra run chase was highlighted by half centuries to the White brothers, Kerrod and Brendan, and Ulcigrai is confident that Kerrod will continue to improve as he settles back in to the south coast competition after a stint in Sydney.

“Kerrod’s back from Sydney, I think he was not used to the wickets down here, so he’s only going to improve as he gets more comfortable.”
