The motorway from Masters Road at Spring Hill to the intersection with the Princes Highway at Yallah will close for five nights from Sunday.
The motorway will be closed in both directions from 8pm to 4am each night until Friday morning.
During the closure Roads and Maritime Services crews will be clearing drains, trimming vegetation, collecting litter and carrying out repairs to the road surface.
“Motorists should be advised that light vehicle detours will be in place via the Princes Highway during the work hours and that up to 20 minutes of additional travel time should be allowed,” said Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra Gareth Ward.
Heavy vehicle detours will be in place and the route will be via Masters Road, Springhill Road, Five Islands Road, King Street, Windang Road and Lake Entrance Road.
Mr Ward encouraged motorists to plan ahead and drive to the conditions so not to put their lives at risk.
