They were there 30 years ago when the centre was just getting to its feet, and have remained dedicated volunteers there since.
Now their work for those who can’t afford a lawyer has been recognised with a NSW Justice Award.
Called the “Group of Six”, Robert Davidson, Mick Davies, James Isabella, Kerry Kyriakoudes, Michael McGrath and Linda Wright received their awards at a ceremony in Sydney last week held by the Law and Justice Foundation of NSW.
Legal centre co-ordinator Truda Gray said Mr Kyriakoudes gave a speech which epitomised the volunteers’ quiet achieving nature.
“He said it had been a privilege to have worked with us, and to have been able to contribute to the community [through] the Illawarra Legal Centre,” she said.
