Wollongong Rotarian’s managed to keep their plan a secret from Mr Hennessy’s wife who always has her finger on the pulse of everything Rotary. The club wanted to recognise the great man behind a great woman who has quietly made an enormous contribution himself while also making it possible for Wollongong Rotary president to do everything she has accomplished.
In making the surprise announcement of such a closely guarded secret Leigh Robinson said the presentation of a Paul Harris Fellowship was made to honour the contribution of a Rotarian or a member of the community who has contributed to the Rotary Foundation, work of Rotary, or to the community in a special or enduring manner. He said the club was pleased to honour Mr Hennessy for his own long standing support of the community and as a partner of a long serving Rotarian.
“We are pleased to recognise this efforts of this barbecue onion king and recognise the contribution Bob Hennessy has made. Without Bob’s support of Dot and his contribution to this community Dot’s involvement in Rotary would not have been as successful as we know it has been”. Mr Hennessy said “I never expected this”.
