The closure will affect the motorway from Bulli Tops to Memorial Drive, and Picton Road from the M1 to Wilton Road.
Picton Road eastbound will be closed from 7.30pm to 4am. The M1 motorway and Picton Road westbound will be closed from 8pm to 4am.
The closure is to ensure the safety of workers and motorists, according to a statement from Roads and Maritime Services.
Work includes clearing vegetation, cleaning gutters and drains to improve water runoff, road resurfacing, line marking and safety ramp maintenance.
If the work is delayed due to poor weather, it will be carried out on Sunday 10 December.
Motorists travelling between Wollongong and Bulli Tops can detour via Memorial Drive and Bulli Pass and should allow up to 10 minutes additional travel time.
Motorists travelling between Wollongong and the Hume Highway can detour via Memorial Drive, Bulli Pass and Appin Road, and should allow up to 40 minutes additional travel time.
Vehicles under 12 tonne and 15 metres can use Wilton Road between Appin Road and Picton Road. Motorists travelling between Wollongong and the Hume Highway can also detour via Macquarie Pass.
