Roads and Maritime Services first expected the long-awaited project would be approved by the end of 2016.
When that didn’t happen, RMS revised the date and said it was expected by the end of 2017.
But this week, an RMS spokeswoman declined to confirm whether approval would be given in the coming weeks.
“The Department of Planning and Environment is the determining authority for the Albion Park Rail bypass project,” the spokeswoman said.
“RMS is working collaboratively with the Department of Planning and Environment to achieve planning approval for the project.”
The spokeswoman implied the delay in gaining approval would not push back the planned 2019 start date for construction.
“Roads and Maritime Service expects to begin minor works in the second half of 2018 ahead of major construction in early 2019,” the spokeswoman said.
