Talks between the government body and Wollongong City Council have already started, with the University of Wollongong due to be included shortly.
The discussions centre around the council and university’s commitment to contribute $350,000 each to fill a shortfall in Gong Shuttle funding in the wake of the government intention to charge fares.
“Wollongong City Council representatives have met with representatives from Transport for NSW to discuss the partial funding of the Gong Shuttle by council,” a spokesman said. “These discussions are ongoing.”
A Transport for NSW spokesman said the council and university wil provide a joint proposal “for consideration”.
