In its second year, the event brought an estimated 4000 people to the city’s green showpiece for sack races, games and picnics.
Rotary Club of Wollongong president Dot Hennessy oversaw a roaring trade in $5 bacon and egg rolls and $2 sausage sandwiches and marveled at the event’s exploding popularity. “I think it’s bringing back family values - going out with the family and sitting and having a picnic in the park and also doing the old-fashioned games that we used to play when we were kids,” she said.
Symbio Wildlife Park contributed animal displays to this year’s event, which included an appearance by crowd favourite Cleo, a rare golden brush tail possum.
Funds raised at the event support Rotary’s youth and community programs.
The event also included a bucket collection for the Tathra Bushfire Appeal.
