The Kiama Bodyboard Slam waiting period will be from July 30 to August 9.
It is the third stop on the APB World Tour, which also includes events in Chile, Brazil, Portugal and the Canary Islands.
The event has been flagged for some time after support from Kiama Council, tourism bodies and Member for Kiama Gareth Ward.
Kiama has hosted NSW titles and major junior events previously. World tour chief executive officer Alex Leon said Kiama was chosen for its location and prime conditions.
“Kiama has the best bodyboarding in Australia and it is conveniently located between Shark Island in Cronulla and Bawley Point in the Shoalhaven,” Leon told Fairfax.
“Kiama is home to The Wedge, Surf Beach and Mystics, they’re perfect bodyboarding venues and known worldwide, a lot of people come out to surf these locations.”
Kiama is also hosting the NSW titles, starting on May 4.
“NSW is the home of surfing in Australia and with Kiama already home to the World Surf League Junior World Championships, it is the ideal location to host this world bodyboarding event,” Ward said.
