The Illawarra stores along with 42 others across Australia and a distribution centre in Sydney will continue trading but customers with gift vouchers will have to spend more money to have them honoured. Online gift voucers won’t be honoured..
A spokesperson told the Illawarra Mercury on Wednesday that the Administrators are preparing an urgent sale process with a view to selling the business and store network as a going concern.
Another possible option is a recapitalisation through the Voluntary Administration process. TRUA directors resolved to appoint Voluntary Administrators after the withdrawal of the final bidder in a sale process that was being undertaken for the Australian business.
The Voluntary Administration follows the recent commencement of insolvency and restructuring proceedings by Toys ‘R’ Us overseas. While Australian stores will keep trading and employees will continue to be paid there have been some changes to store policies.
- Refunds for sold items will no longer be offered.
- Gift cards & vouchers will be honoured provided customers spend an additional equivalent amount.
- Gift vouchers will not be honoured online.
- Online orders will be delivered where goods have been paid for in full and stock is available.
- Lay-by will be honoured if the outstanding balance is paid and stock is available.
- While VIP discounts will be honoured, the ability to earn and utilise points will be suspended.
- The Administrators expect that employee entitlements will be met either through a sale of the business, recoveries from the sale of stock, or through the Commonwealth Government’s Fair Entitlements Guarantee (FEG) Scheme.
- Customers can call 1300 TOYS R US (1300 869 778) or contact support@toysrus.com.au or ToysRUs@mcgrathnicol.com with any queries.
