The car struck a window at Priceline Pharmacy in the Springetts Arcade’s rear carpark about 1.50pm on Friday.
An eight-year-old boy was flown to Liverpool Hospital after sustaining serious leg injuries in the accident.
Southern Highlands Police Officer-in-Charge Inspector John Klepczarek said police were investigating the cause of the crash.
“It appears a female driver has been approaching the gutter and it appears somehow she’s lost control of the car and mounted the car park footpath,” Inspector John Klepczarek said.
“At the same time a young eight-year-old boy has come around the corner.
“He’s been struck by the car and thrown in the air. He’s received some quite serious leg injuries.
“As a result he’s been taken by paramedics to the local park, where he’s been airlifted to a Sydney children’s hospital.”
The driver, age unknown, was taken to Bowral hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.
Motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Moss Vale Police Station on 4868 1222.
