An accidental bump - according to police - is all it took to trigger a fight in Crown St Mall which left one teen in a pool of blood with serious stab wounds, a court heard yesterday. One of two people allegedly involved in the attack at 5.30pm last Friday was given bail yesterday against police advice.Joshua Richardson, 18, of Cringila who was already on bail and a bond for separate alleged offences, has had his bail tightened to protect the community. The alleged assault took place at the eastern end of the mall outside the Greater Union building, according to police facts tendered to court. Police allege Richardson was with two other males including a juvenile who between them had consumed 16 bottles of beer since they arrived at the mall at 2.30pm.A fight broke out when four people on their way out to dinner passed by and a member of that group accidentally bumped the shoulder of Richardson's friend Jason Bowley, police alleged. The juvenile, who cannot be named, allegedly became abusive and aggressive and despite Bowley's efforts to stop the fight, punched the 19-year-old victim who struck back knocking the young person over.Bowley who feared for his young friend, allegedly dragged the victim back and pushed him into a shop window. As the victim tried to get to his feet, the juvenile allegedly ran at him with a 10cm ghurka-styled knife and thrust it twice into the left side of the victim's chest and abdomen.Police said the assault was captured on CCTV footage including images of the juvenile running from the scene and dumping the knife in a garbage bin outside the IMB building society. Also injured on the night was the victim's friend who Richardson allegedly punched.Police said he punched the man once causing him to clutch at his face in pain. Police said that at the time of writing their report the stabbing victim was about to undergo surgery for internal bleeding and there was a possibility he had suffered kidney damage.Prosector Sgt Darryl Hahn opposed bail saying Richardson had little regard for court orders as he was on bail for other offences and had already been given a bond by the court.Richardson's solicitor David Ryan said Richardson's culpability amounted to one alleged punch. He said he not been known to police until 13 months ago and part of his problem was a growing problem with drugs and alcohol.Magistrate Les Mabbutt described the facts as "disturbing" but said he had to take into account Richardson's age and his lesser role in the assault. "But you are running out of options," he told Richardson. He adjourned the matter to July 6 during which time Richardson will not be allowed to leave his house unless accompanied by a parent. The juvenile will appear in Port Kembla Children's Court tomorrow.
