Paul McLeay quits cabinet

01 Sep, 2010 03:35 PM
Minister for the Illawarra Paul McLeay quit State Cabinet today after he admitted using his work computer for gambling and adult websites.

Mr McLeay is expected to stay on as the Member for Heathcote but will give up his portfolios of ports and waterways and the Illawarra.

Premier Kristina Keneally said she expected better.

“This behaviour is not the standard I expect of a minister,” she said.

“I have made clear to Mr McLeay that I expect ministers to use the resources of office appropriately.

“Some people may choose to undertake similar activities in their personal lives, but I cannot condone the use of parliamentary resources by a minister in this way.”

Ms Keneally also apologised to the electorate.

“I am sorry that this situation has occurred,” Ms Keneally said.

“I will not condone it, and I will continue to make clear that I expect the highest integrity from ministers.’’

Surely this has to be the last straw, the Labor Government in NSW has no legitimacy left to Govern the state?

Shows the seriousness he takes of his electorate. How could his decision to not support the Heathcote clearway be now taken seriously. That must now be investigated.

Opps, just another reason why this inept state gov. should be shown the door next march. After watching K.K. in state parliment y/day, answering a question from Andrew Stoner on CTP greenslips for motorcycles, she just has to go too. What a waste of space she is. the whole labor state govt. should be sacked this minute. Campbell, Hay. Brown, Della Bosca, Mcleay, need I keep going?

Where is the example and the standard? All public sector employees face instant dismissal for doing what he has done, yet he keeps his gig, and no doubt his pension. No wonder this state is going backwards.

Yet another oxygen thief from the Labor party. Please bring the election forward so we can get rid of them now. Inept on every level

If most of us did that in our jobs we would be sacked immediately. Why should he keep his job in state parlt? How much more do we have to endure from this govt?

Maybe McLeay and Campbell should join the Sex Party!

Well, he has to hang on to this job [for the time being - pending the March election] as he might be unemployable after this episode.

Can't wait for the Premier to come out and defend the man, the labor party, all the good work he and her government have done, and then quickly brush off his actions with some lame excuse.
