Greyhound Racing NSW will announce next week the revolutionary way it plans to fill its slot for the $750,000 TAB Phoenix in December. You may recall that last month GRNSW was successful in securing one of the eight slots in the sport's newest event which will be held at The Meadows on December 18. The event is similar to racing's TAB Everest in that slot holders can select a runner to represent them in the race. A number of the other slot holders have already revealed how they will find their representative, while here at GRNSW the team have come up with a unique idea on how our runner will be decided and the process is expected to widen the exposure and profile of the event and the industry to a bigger audience. It's a great innovation and I'm sure everyone will be get on board. While the big kennels are quite often the ones who snatch the big races, sometimes that trend is broken and while leading trainer Jodie Lord took out the Group 1 Vic Peters Classic with Bandit Ned last Saturday night at Wentworth Park, it was a maiden Group 1 success for Jordan Tweddle when Light And Lily took out the Peter Mosman Opal. And to make the night even better, Jordan also celebrated his 42nd birthday on Saturday. The Group 1 races at Wentworth Park last week kicked off some big racing in NSW, and that will continue across the next few days. On Sunday the Goulburn Club will stage their biggest meeting of the year with the Group 3 Goulburn Cup and the Fireball Final. One of the State's best greyhounds, Wow, returned from an injury layoff last week and he was brilliant, recording the fastest time of the four Cup heats. In the Fireball, the Michelle Lill-trained More Sauce not only won his heat, but broke the 350m track record and will be strongly fancied to win the final. On Tuesday at Lismore, that club will hold their big night, the Group 2 Lismore Workers Club Cup, and the early favourite and fastest qualifier is Louis Rumble trained by Steve Kavanagh, the man who put the collar and lead on one of our greatest greyhounds, Brother Fox, back in the 1980s. It was great to see 2019 TAB Million Dollar Chase winner Good Odds Harada continue his rich vein of form at Wentworth Park last Saturday and congratulations to Frank and Tracey Hurst. He's won four of his five runs since resuming for a spell, and Saturday's win took his tally to 35 wins from 83 starts with an additional 32 placings. Most importantly the win took his prizemoney tally to over $1.32 million, and within $40,000 of catching the all time Australian prizemoney leader Fanta Bale.
