The road has been designed to offer residents a southern exit from McCauleys Beach estate, taking them south of Bulli Pass, and offering alternative access to the Princes Hwy in Bulli.

At present, traffic has to queue at the intersection of Wrexham Rd and Lawrence Hargrave Dr.

The road was included in the original concept plan approved by the State Government, but community groups say no construction work has begun.

Stockland said construction of the road would depend on the approval of a nearby parcel of land owned by Anglican Retirement Villages (ARV).

ARV had planned to build 250 independent living units and community facilities and a four-storey residential aged-care facility on the site, but ‘‘extensive infrastructure costs’’ led the developer to abandon the project and put it on the market last year.

A Stockland spokesman said the road would not go ahead until the ARV land was developed.

‘‘The construction of this second access point would make up part of the approval for the future development of the ARV land under the concept plan.’’

Treasurer of the Thirroul Village Committee Murray Jones said he felt he had been misled by Stockland.

‘‘We were promised two means of egress but are only getting one,’’ he said.

‘‘I have waited a lifetime for a bypass to the bottom of the pass and now further delays. From where I stand, it appears that Stockland is deceiving us.’’

Stockland is awaiting a decision on the sixth and final stage of its development, which will include 70 apartments in two buildings and eight houses.
