Crime manager Tim Beattie said that one way law enforces showed their soft side was by handing over bucket loads of presents to Wesley Community Care Centre.
‘‘This is something tangible to show that we care,’’ detective inspector Beattie said as he joined officers in presenting the presents for distribution yesterday.
The gifts would show people in the community who are struggling to make ends meet at this time of year that police too consider themselves part of the community, he said.
This year Wollongong officers , with the help of Uncle Pete’s Toys and Priceline, managed to rustle up about 100 presents for disadvantaged people in the community.
All up, Wesley has provided presents for 250 Illawarra children this Christmas.
