It was the Gif that echoed around the interwebz, First Lady Michelle Obama throwing 'world-historical shade' as Gawker put it, toward the Republican speaker of the house, John Boehner.

It's commonly known that Boehner and Obama aren't exactly close and that Boehner has a reputation for heading up a deliberately obstructive Republican majority congress. But hey, they're grown-ups and grown-ups know how to be civil.
Well, up to a point. Let's look at that eye roll again, shall we?
Page Six had the genius idea to have a lip reader named Larry Wenig translate what Boehner said. According to Wenig, the President asked Boehner if he'd had a chance to smoke before the luncheon, which took place inside the U.S. Capitol immediately after the ceremony. (Obama claims to have quit smoking, while the Speaker of the House apparently remains a chain smoker.)
Boehner, Wenig says, quipped, "Somebody [Michelle] won't let you do it," which then prompted the First Lady's response.
Because of course Michelle Obama is a nagging, angry shrew who treats her husband like a little boy. It's not like the president would want to quit smoking for his own health, is it? No way sir - he's only done it under her strict orders, right? And for a Republican like John Boehner, who, all too often tips his hat to the Tea Party, the most radically right-wing political group in congress, there is no graver insult than the implication that your wife might be 'wearing the pants' in the relationship.
During the inauguration lunch, Obama made mention of Boehner: "Michelle and the Speaker of the House came to a meeting of the minds that I may be delaying the proceedings too much . . .And so I'm just going to be extraordinarily brief and say thank you."
Obama knows better than most that if you can't say something nice ...
