Darci on trial for Randwick mile

The multiple stakes winner, owned by a syndicate of Illawarra Turf Club members, will end a six-week freshen-up and set sail for an autumn campaign at Rosehill tomorrow.

Murray nominated the Doncaster Handicap as a likely target, but is under no illusions how hard it will be to secure a start in the race.

"If he gets there it could be a goal," said Murray, who has entered his Darci Brahma stable star into a Benchmark 95 Handicap (1400 metres).

"He'd have to pick up a couple of races on the way to get in there and he'd need to warrant a start in a race like that.

"I think there's a 1900-metre open handicap in two or three weeks' time and if he performs well enough the Doncaster could be in his sights."

Firing mature age apprentice Jenny Duggan will take over from Nathan Berry, only two wins shy of shedding her three-kilogram metropolitan claim.

Darci Be Good will only carry 56 kilograms after Duggan's allowance in just his second non-black-type start since March last year. He will start from barrier nine in the 10-horse field.

"I wanted Johnny Kissick to ride him, but his manager had taken a full book at Corowa and wouldn't let him come to ride him," Murray said. "So I switched to Jenny Duggan."
