The company wants to establish new mining domains at NRE No1 Colliery as part of its expansion at Russell Vale.
If approved, the expansion could generate three million tonnes per annum of coal and a total of 46 million tonnes extracted over the predicted 18-year lifespan of the project.
The expansion would increase employment at the mine by about 53 full-time workers.
According to the documents posted on NSW Planning and Infrastructure’s website, the expansion would generate an additional $609 million over the life of the project and local expenditure was expected to be worth more than $1 billion.
The application proposes to mainly mine the Wongawilli seam using 16 new longwalls.
It also seeks approval for associated surface works.
The application acknowledges that there could be negative impact for neighbouring residents including increased coal trucks on local roads and noise associated with site operations.
It addressed these issues by proposing to construct new noise barriers, use acoustic mitigation equipment and enforce a driver code of conduct.
Gujarat received approval to begin mining its No5 longwall in December.
Interested parties can view the proposal and make a submission to the department at www.majorprojects.planning.nsw.gov.au.
