Bronson Harrison managed to play more than a half a match with a broken hand, but despite a bid to hasten his return for the ailing Dragons has opted for a more cautious approach.
The former New Zealand international reeled out of a tackle early in St George Illawarra's gritty win over Newcastle last month, but still played all-bar 13 minutes with the painful injury.
Harrison pushed the boundaries again in the hope of returning for tomorrow night's clash against the title-contending Roosters, stepping up his rehabilitation over the past fortnight.
But Harrison dampened the prospect of a much-needed boost for the Dragons on the injury front, plotting a comeback against table-topping Souths after St George Illawarra's second bye.
"I was hoping to push it, but the doc and medical staff said we've got an extra week up our sleeve, so we'll tough it out then," Harrison said after an impromptu fitness test on his injured hand during a signing session for kids.
"There needs to be a little bit more healing before I can start doing a bit of contact.
"It's not normally where you break a hand either.
"I broke it in the metacarpal, the first one, and the reason it's probably taking longer than it should is because there's nothing else to splint it."
Before injuring his hand, the 27-year-old was slowly warming into his first year at the Dragons since an off-season switch from Canberra.
Harrison acknowledged he didn't think the discomfort was too serious until he was checked over after the Newcastle match.
