A German TV audience has received a lesson in how to catch a kangaroo, compliments of eccentric Dapto wildlife adventurer Andrew Ucles.
Ucles snared a spot in a prime-time German reality series Joko vs Klaas - The Battle for the World, where hosts Joachim "Joko" Winterscheidt and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf take turns challenging one another to tough and oddball challenges all over the world.
In an episode aired in Germany late last year, Joko sent Klaas to the Australian outback to meet Ucles, who revealed Klaas's task was to catch a kangaroo.
During the show, Ucles makes his entrance in a cloud of dust, moonwalking, bare-chested as usual, with matador music playing and a horse propped nearby, as if he has ridden in from Dapto.
"What kind of freak is that, eh?" Klaas asks. "Where does Joko always find these kind of people."
Fleet-footed Ucles later chases down the pasty German (so he can learn to think like an animal), disguises him as a tree and part-buries him so he won't be noticed by a passing emu, which is subsequently captured by the pair.
They heave the bird over a fence, supposedly to freedom, prompting soaring music and a tender slow-motion moment.
The episode culminates with Ucles herding a mob of "kangurus" towards the disguised Klaas, as end-of-the-world music plays. Klaas awkwardly seizes one of the animals by the tail and, the challenge met, tells the camera: "I think I pissed my pants."
The TV appearance is the latest coup for the globetrotting Ucles, who dreams of a career in television making man-vs-wild style documentaries.
For years he has chronicled his many adventures in YouTube clips that have amassed millions of views.
