A THRILL-SEEKING couple from the state's South-West always expected mixed reactions when word about their wedding day plans started to spread.
But it was never likely to deter Cassy Austin and Jarrod Wells from celebrating the momentous day their own way.
The couple had entered a competition run by an adventure tourism company to have a canyon wedding ceremony.
They were the only ones to enter, and took out first prize.
Yesterday, the newlyweds became the first to marry in the World Heritage Dove Canyon, near Cradle Mountain.
Together with 10 of their closest friends and family, the pair donned wetsuits, helmets, abseiling gear and safety equipment.
The group then embarked on a four-hour guided canyoning tour.
The bridal party jumped off overhanging rocks, slipped down fallen trees and slid through naturally carved rocks.
Their wedding ceremony then took place at the precipice of a seven-metre waterfall.
Mr Wells said what happened after they exchanged vows felt very fitting.
``Taking the plunge and jumping off the waterfall hand-in-hand felt like a real leap of faith,'' he said.
``The whole experience was amazing, energising and exhilarating.''
Speaking on his way to a low-key reception, Mr Wells said the adrenalin from the canyoning tour and the excitement of being married was quite overwhelming. ``To think I'm going to be able to look back on my anniversary each year and remember exactly how we got married is absolutely awesome,'' he said.
