With the annual Kiama Sevens on again this weekend, the club's focus has switched to building their teams in the 2014 Illawarra competition.
The good numbers at training thus far have pleased club coach Darryl 'Blocker' Thomas.
"Last season was a bit disappointing with injuries making it very hard, with many players sustaining season-ending injuries," Thomas said.
"However, the numbers at training to date have been very encouraging.
"I have a new assistant in Paul Cramsie, we also have a few new players, while some old faces are also re-emerging, so we are hopeful of a competitive season."
One of their major challenges, according to committee member Al Marsden is having enough players to field a Colts team.
A dozen players have already shown interest.
"Illawarra is making a strong push to try and make the Colts competition more competitive, and we encourage all young guys under 20 to come and give our great game a go," Marsden said.
"There will be no club fees for the Colts, and they will be supplied with training gear and formal club attire."
Training is on Tuesday and Thursdays at Chapman Reserve, but from February 25 will return to the club's base at the Kiama Showground.
