Forty-eight men’s teams have entered the competition.
The memories of the 2013 event, which was marred by high winds and lashing rains in what was to be a preview of the tornadoes that hit the town that night, still linger.
Kiama Rugby Sevens historian Dick Payne said excitement was building.
“Last year’s winners Brisbane Fijians, will be joined by Auckland Tongans, Fijian teams Nabua, Red Rock and Wanacia, while most Sydney teams will be represented, including Parramatta, West Harbour, Manly and Sydney Uni,” he said.
“The Illawarra competition will also be well-represented, led by home club Kiama, Shoalhaven, Wollongong Uni and Bowral.
‘‘The competition is also popular among other country clubs that make an annual pilgrimage to the event, while an interesting addition will be an Indigenous Development team, coached by well-known rugby league personality John Simon.”
There will again be an eight-team women’s competition including Sydney teams Norths, Parramatta, Manly and Warringah, while there will also be a Country team as well as a NSW Development Squad.
The event will be played at Kiama Showground and Chittick Oval.
Games will start at 8.30am on Saturday and will wrap up late in the day.
There will be $25,000 in prizemoney up for grabs.
