Police were called to the home on Keerong Avenue about 2.15am, responding to reports of a fight.
A NSW Ambulance spokeswoman said the man suffered a wound to his right eye, as well as two stab wounds to his chest.
He originally self-presented to Bulli Hospital. He was later taken to Wollongong Hospital.
Neighbours said the house was regularly visited by police, and they often heard disputes among the occupants.
On Wednesday, police were yet to charge anyone over the incident, and the victim had been released from hospital.
Neighbour Terry Bugg said the first he learnt of the incident was police knocking on his door at 2.15am.
‘‘They wanted to know about reports of an altercation in my driveway,’’ he said.
‘‘I couldn’t tell them anything because I didn’t know a damn thing about it.’’ Mr Bugg said the house had regular visitors ‘‘all hours of the day and night’’.
Detectives set up police tape around the property about 9.30am Wednesday.
Another neighbour, who was too frightened to provide her name, said the altercations at the house had become ‘‘worse and worse’’ during the past few weeks.
‘‘There have been more and more people coming,’’ she said.
‘‘We’re all frightened... it’s not nice to live near that.’’
A third resident, who also did not want to be identified, said she heard ‘‘yelling and screaming’’ in the early hours of the morning before a car took off.
‘‘I’m a little concerned. I’m certainly making sure the doors are locked,’’ she said.
Police are hoping to speak to the injured man once he is deemed well enough.
