Unusual for these waters, it is believed to be only the second caught off The Tubes - the last one was in the late 1990s.
Stanley, 30, a regular at The Tubes, witnessed more than 100 marlin hooked off the rocks this season.
He landed his catch on six kilogram gear.
Originally thinking he had hooked a marlin he said the fish only leapt from the water three or four times during the 40-45 minute battle and it wasn’t until it was close to the ledge that he realised it was a sailfish.
