CONCERNED stakeholders from Shell Cove Public School may not have achieved their dream outcome, but a recent public forum about traffic issues around the school has led to some positive outcomes.
The school's P&C had asked for a crossing attendant to be positioned at the school's entrance on Stradbroke Avenue and a pedestrian crossing installed on Southern Cross Boulevarde, but were told by Roads and Maritime Services that they did not fit the required criteria.
The P&C and Gilmore MP Ann Sudmalis held a public forum a fortnight ago to discuss the issues, with parents deciding to work together to ensure their children make it to school safely.
"The forum was really well attended, everybody there wanted to make the situation safer, and while they ultimately decided to not try and petition the RMS to have their changes made, they have decided to do something," Ms Sudmalis said.
Parent volunteers will lead a "walking bus" in which a group walks to school, picking up kids as they go.
"The parents are more than happy to adopt it and be a part of it," she said.
