Investigations continue into death of Moruya man

A 40-year-old man has been charged with assaulting two men in Moruya on Thursday in which one of the man's alleged victims has now died.

About 6pm on Thursday officers were called to a unit in Evans Street following reports a man had died.

Police from the Far South Coast Local Area Command arrived to find the body of a 41-year-old man.

They established a crime scene which was examined by specialist forensic officers.

Officers were told the deceased man had been assaulted at the location on the previous day.

It’s alleged a 40-year-old man assaulted him and his 60-year-old male housemate at the unit before leaving.

As a result of inquiries, a 40-year-old man was arrested about 4.30pm on Friday at a Moruya address.

He was taken to Batemans Bay Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The man appeared in Batemans Bay Local Court on Saturday and was refused bail, to re-appear there on Monday.

A post mortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of the man’s death.

According to police, further charges may be considered pending the outcome of the post mortem.

Investigations are ongoing and police will prepare a report for the coroner.
