In an effort to reduce the amount of waste that goes into landfill, a fleet of five new state-of-the-art garbage trucks will take to the streets of Shellharbour this week.
Shellharbour City Council and collection services Remondis Australia have introduced brand new red, yellow and green garbage trucks with educational signage.
The trucks were launched last week.
The message "Choose the right bin, don't just throw it in" and "Don't be a tosser!" are displayed on the trucks. Also shown are images and graphics that provide tips on the correct items for each bin.
Mayor Marianne Saliba said the signage would encourage residents to think about their waste and, in the long run, help to reduce the amount that goes into landfill.
"If everyone takes responsibility for correctly disposing of waste produced at their home, we can eliminate a lot of unnecessary waste that goes to landfill," Cr Saliba said.
"Each of the five trucks will have individual messages that promote tips and reminders about appropriate waste disposal to entrench good habits in our community."
Remondis driver trainer Graham Rutley said each vehicle was fitted with the latest technology.
Remondis chief executive Luke Agati said the company was, "fully committed to deliver a service of excellence," to the Shellharbour community.
"We are here to make a difference," Mr Agati said.
"No matter how big, or small, we are dedicated to each contract, and with our state-of-the-art vehicles and technology we can help deliver this service to the residents."
