The small, but historic, club took out the fours crown at Woonona Bowling Club on Saturday with an 18-17 result over Kiama in a thrilling come-from-behind win.
The Kembla Heights team of Uirich Wenzel, James Boyle, Graham Clarke and Zel Diamant Jr were trailing 17-10 after 16 ends and looked in trouble in the grand final.
They fought back to be 17-all after 20 ends, and won the match with one bowl in the final end.
Upton said the entire club was rapt with the victory.
"Over the moon," Upton said.
"When you stop and think it's the first major tournament the club's won in 50 years.
"The last four ends, they seemed to want to cause heart attacks for us blokes watching on. They played exceptionally good bowls.
"We're a number six pennants side, I think it would be about the first number six pennants side that's won the fours."
Kembla Heights was knocked out in the play-off stages of the Zone 16 pennants earlier this year.
However, Upton could see the team was building towards something special.
He credits the recent success largely to the arrival of Diamant and Boyle.
The pair have only been at the club for about two years and have proven instrumental in filling the trophy cabinet.
"We just haven't had the quality of player," Upton said.
"Zel Diament came from Corrimal, he was originally a number one pennant player at Corrimal.
"He had a two-year break and, because he lives in Cordeaux Heights, he decided to come up here and have a roll with us.
"Him and James Boyle.
"That's the difference that's been made at this club in the last 12 months, the ability those two have brought in."
With the Fours trophy secured, Upton wants the club to strive for bigger and better things into 2015 and beyond.
"I think this coming year is going to be a year that changes us," he said.
