World tour stars like Mick Fanning, Owen Wright and Joel Parkinson all feature as winners of the under-18 Australian junior surfing title, and from last weekend the Stanwell Park rising star's name joined the list.
"It is an honour to have that title with some of the people who have won it before me," Ball said.
"Mick Fanning, Owen Wright and all those guys who are on the tour now - they have got an Aussie title and it is super cool for me to get one too."
For Ball, the title was one which almost never eventuated.
On tour in Hawaii with some of the world's best young surfers, the 17-year-old was on the verge of not qualifying for the nation's premier youth surfing event.
A last-minute flight back to Australia saw him earn a spot through a second-placed finish at the NSW titles at Port Macquarie in July.
It was a decision he wouldn't regret.
Four months down the track, Ball overcame a quality field to win the Australian title in Yallingup, Western Australia.
"I had a big week in West Australia. It was super sunny and super-long days down at the beach, so to come out on top at the end of the week with the level of surfing over there was amazing," Ball said.
Ball reached the final following strong performances in the early rounds of the competition.
A four-man decider saw the Illawarra talent meet defending champion Fraser Dovell, Queensland's Quinn Bruce and highly-rated West Australian Jacob Willcox in tricky swell.
But when the siren sounded, it was Ball who came out on top.
"I got the lead really early when I got a 7.80 or something, and that helped me get a confidence boost in the final," Ball said.
"Then I got another wave where I got an 8, so I was combo-ing the field for a little bit. Jacob got a 9.00 and a 6 and only needed to get another 7 to win the final, but lucky enough I took it out."
"It is always good to come up against [Jacob]. He is one of the better people in the age group, so it was really cool to beat him."
Ball hopes the win can propel him into contention for the ISA world titles next year, and hopes to following the footsteps of other Australian title holders to the ASP World Tour.
"It looks so cool. There is incredible waves all year round and you are among the best in the world," Ball said.
