Police will target speeding, drink and drug-driving, as well as mobile phone and seatbelt use over the four-day period.
Emergency Services Minister Stuart Ayres said high visibility police would be out in force.
‘‘We know double demerits act as an effective road safety initiative with deaths on our roads during holiday periods reduced by a third since they were introduced, which is why they’ll be in force this long weekend,’’ he said.
Authorities are encouraging use of the Speed Adviser App, which provides audio alerts when the speed limit changes.
