About 3pm on Thursday officers attached to Sutherland Local Area Command stopped a Toyota Corolla sedan at a service station on the Princes Highway at Heathcote.
During a search of the vehicle police discovered a hidden compartment containing cocaine with an estimated street value of $50,000, as well as a flick knife.
The items were seized and will now undergo further forensic examination.
The driver, a 26-year-old Port Kembla man, was arrested and taken to Sutherland Police Station.
He was charged with supply prohibited drug and possess or use prohibited weapon without a permit and was refused bail to appear before Sutherland Local Court on Friday.
