Nathan Edwards was refused bail on Monday. He is accused of breaking into the home of an acquaintance in Bent Street, Warrawong, and confronting the man over an alleged drug rip-off.
Police allege Edwards, a cannabis addict, gave his victim $50 on two occasions and was told to wait, but the man did not return.
He allegedly returned to the premises early on Saturday morning and threatened to kill the man if he did not receive the drugs and money, before allegedly thrusting at the victim with a knife and hitting him in the abdomen.
The 20-year-old was tracked down using a police dog and later admitted stabbing the victim over a drug debt, police facts tendered to the court said.
Port Kembla Local Court heard Edwards had matters of violence on his record, including convictions for affray, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, resisting arrest and carrying an offensive implement in public.
