Police publicly identified Mr Dower on Friday - over a month after his body was discovered in the laundry of a Crana Place apartment building - in the hopes of turning up new leads in a murder investigation.
Wollongong Police Detective Inspector Tim Beattie said detectives have received large amounts of information, but that much of the information was given by anonymous sources.
"That's why we are releasing information today, so people providing information anonymously will make themselves known to us, and provide that information directly to us," he said.
"We've received a whole range of support from the community."
Mr Dower's body was discovered in the laundry building of the NSW Housing complex on April 16.
Det Insp Beattie declined to answer several questions from the media, citing investigational reasons, but said Mr Dower was aged 56, and lived in the Wollongong area in "a number of different locations."
He declined to say whether police had discovered a murder weapon, or how long Mr Dower's body had been hidden in the laundry, but the Mercury understands the body had been there for several weeks.
"What we know is Mark Dower was a man who was well-regarded by everyone who knew him, and we are hoping people, knowing his name, will come forward and speak directly to police," Det Insp Beattie said.
"A large number of people have been spoken to, and provided strong information that has assisted us. We know there's more information out there, we know more people in the community know what happened."
Det Insp Beattie said Mr Dower's family had been notified and spoken to, but declined to say whether he had any family in the Illawarra.
Det Insp Beattie urged anyone with information to contact Wollongong Police on 4226 7899, Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
