Emerging Warilla High School talent Guy Rosewarn has a hard-running, no-nonsense style in the David Klemmer mould.
The 17-year-old is a Steelers SG Ball representative and Dragons high performance unit member, now focused on making his impact felt in the Australian All Schools competition starting on Sunday.
Playing alongside centre Reuben Garrick, the Illawarra duo are earmarked for higher honours in rugby league.
While Klemmer will carry the hopes of the Blues in Wednesday's Origin decider, Rosewarn will lead from the front for the NSW Combined High Schools when they take on their Catholic Colleges rival at Collegians Sports Centre on Monday.
Several NSWCHS players have held junior honours as they move up through the age groups, but this will be the first time Rosewarn has earned a state jersey.
"I can't wait, it's going to be a great experience," the second-rower said.
"I'm expecting the standard to be pretty high, but I'm just looking forward to playing with some guys I've never played with before, hopefully playing well."
It's a big year for Rosewarn, who willcomplete his year 12 Higher School Certificate.
He's hoping to break into the St George Illawarra National Youth Cup under-20 squad, working towards his ultimate goal of the NRL.
After growing up idolising the second-row workhorse Nathan Hindmarsh, Rosewarn has developed an appetite for explosive ball-running and touch tackling, which has attracted the attention of NRL scouts.
Rosewarn combined with Garrick could prove a match-winning asset for NSWCHS.
Garrick scored eight tries from as many games for the Steelers in the SG Ball competition.
The entry into the Dragons high performance unit has helped Rosewarn take his punishing style of play to a new level, he said.
"It's been great to see how the Dragons work and the facilities they have," he said.
"It's made me a fitter, better player."
The CHS squad gathered in Wollongong on Thursday, holding their first training run at University Oval, before their carnival opener to be played against the Catholic Colleges on Monday at 12.25pm, before tackling Queensland on Tuesday.
Semi-finals will be held on Wednesday and the final on Thursday.
