Detectives from Lake Illawarra police have set up Strike Force Norda to investigate the June 20 shooting, which left a 39-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his arm.
The man was found inside a house on Brigadoon Circuit about 5.40am.
It's understood the bullet went into his left elbow/forearm area and resulted in a scattering of pellet wounds to his left flank and upper thigh.
He was airlifted to St George Hospital and continues to receive ongoing treatment for his injuries.
According to police, witnesses have reported seeing a female leaving the house after the shooting and getting into a white vehicle which sped away.
The female has been described as aged in her 20s, with long brown hair and of medium build.
Police were reluctant to release more detailed information when asked by the Mercury on Tuesday, saying the investigation remained in its infancy.
Investigators believe other people in the street may have witnessed the incident.
At the time, neighbours reported hearing music and seeing signs of a small gathering at the property in the hours leading to the shooting.
News of the violence surprised residents.
"Oak Flats is normally very quiet, especially this street - there's all older people that live in here," a neighbour told the Mercury on June 20.
Anyone with information about the vehicle or the woman should contact Lake Illawarra detectives on 4232 5364 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
