Lucky for them the lavish London Palladium production will be lighting up stages across Australia from late 2015.
After a successful run in London's West End it will open at Sydney's Capitol Theatre on December 13, moving to Brisbane and Melbourne in 2016.
The Australian production's Amy Lehpamer (who plays Maria) says The Sound of Music provides audiences with a beautiful story and a taste of classic old-world charm.
And the music? Well, that's the real hallmark.
"The music itself is quite magical and it really melts all your troubles away and makes you feel warm and fuzzy," she says.
After 30 years in show business, Cameron Daddo (Captain von Trapp) says he feels blessed to be part of the legacy that is The Sound of Music.
"Musical theatre is a huge passion of mine – I love the blending of acting and music because it's all about conveying emotion," he says.
Joining Daddo and Lehpamer will be Marina Prior in the role of Baroness Schraeder. The seasoned stage performer says it's particularly exciting to be part of a musical that has remained so timeless and so loved.
"The substance of the story is what makes the musical so enduring," she says.
"It's sort of everything – it's a love story and a family story set against a very dramatic time and it's all just so epic."
Rehearsals for the production will begin in November.
