When the call goes out the Dapto Rotarian and his fellow graffiti crew hit the streets to clean up their community.
‘’Within 48 hours we’ve usually removed the graffiti. We take pride in the community and want our neighbourhoods to be clean and look good,’’ Mr Chamberlain said.
‘’We work closely with the [Wollongong] council to clean up sites around the city.’’
In recent years youngsters from the Dapto Girl Guides have helped in the removal of graffiti.
They will join forces with the Rotary Club of Dapto again to run a Graffiti Removal Day event on Sunday, October 18.
Wollongong City Council has requested the groups to clean up the old council building on the corner of Bridge Street and Springhill Road, Coniston.
‘’The day will provide a great opportunity to highlight the problem of graffiti vandalism and encourage people to get involved in the removal and prevention of graffiti,’’ Mr Chamberlain said.
‘’Rotarians are passionate about combating graffiti, which is why we are proud to be working with the NSW Government, Wollongong City Council and great sponsors such as Dulux, and Smart Graffiti on this campaign.’’
Removing graffiti costs the NSW government, Wollongong City Council, local businesses and households millions of dollars each year.
‘’It’s a real problem for the community. We need as many people as possible to get involved if we are to win the war against graffiti,’’ Mr Chamberlain said.
